Anxiety & Overthinking

When your mind rarely switches off and everything can feel like a lot.

Anxiety doesn't always look like panic.

Sometimes it's constantly thinking, anticipating what might go wrong, replaying conversations, being hard on yourself, trying to keep everything under control or feeling responsible for far too much.

You might function incredibly well on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed, exhausted or unable to properly switch off.

Counselling can help with managing anxiety, but it can also create space to become curious about why your mind and body might be working so hard in the first place.

Why can't I just stop overthinking?

Anxiety isn't always something that appears for no reason.

Our temperament, experiences, relationships and ways of coping can all influence how we respond to uncertainty, pressure and emotion.

This might look like:

  • constantly overthinking or analysing

  • replaying conversations afterwards

  • worrying about things that haven't happened yet

  • feeling responsible for keeping everything together

  • struggling with uncertainty or lack of control

  • being highly self-critical

  • feeling easily overwhelmed by emotions or other people's needs

  • appearing capable while privately feeling exhausted

  • finding it difficult to rest without feeling guilty

  • knowing logically that something is okay but still not feeling okay

Understanding these patterns doesn't mean we have to analyse every anxious thought.

Sometimes we need practical ways to feel steadier. Other times, it can be useful to explore what sits underneath the anxiety and why certain situations affect you so strongly.

Often, both matter.

You don't have to become less sensitive

Being deeply affected by things isn't necessarily something that needs to be removed from you.

Counselling can help you understand the difference between sensitivity, anxiety, old patterns and genuine signals that something isn't right for you.

The aim isn't to never feel anxious, overwhelmed or affected again.

It's to understand yourself well enough that those experiences don't have to run the show.
